NFTRA Riding Program Overview
NFTRA NFTRA conducts 3 riding sessions of approximately 10 weeks each in the fall, winter and spring. At the end of the spring session we hold our In-House Horse Show where riders showcase in competition, what they have learned in their lessons. All riders go home with a big ribbon, and an even bigger smile! In the summer there is a much anticipated and enjoyed Summer Camp.
In June each year NFTRA holds its annual 2 day horse show. The show is unique in that it is a combination of able-bodied and disabled riders, and thus promotes improved understanding and integration of all participants.
In 2008 our show hosted the “Canadian National Para Dressage Championships” which was the last chance for national Para-Equestrian athletes to qualify for the Paralympics being held in Beijing. One of our graduates, Jennifer McKenzie, is a Paralympian and was a participant.
As a contributing member of our community NFTRA liaises with organizations such as Thomas Haney Sr. Secondary, Sprott Shaw Community College, Youth Diversion programs, PLEA and high school work experience programs.
NFTRA provides professional therapeutic equine activities enriching the lives of physically, emotionally and developmentally challenged individuals through social, recreational and national competitive riding programs.
